  • Computer Clean Up – Addon Programs

    This is a round up of free programs I highly recommend using, on top of your typical protection and clean up programs such as Ccleaner, Nortons, Mcafee, AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.

    MalwareBytes Anti-Spyware & Anti-Malware – This little program is really powerful, it has found malware on my system that Ad-aware had missed and it was able to remove some of the harder to get rid of malware programs such as Coolwebsearch without the need of an additional removal program. The only con to MalwareBytes, is that it does not do schedule scans, you need to manually go into the program to update and run the scan.  On the plus side though, the scan runs fast and is quite thorough.

    Dr Web CureIT – About a month ago I was having problems with a backup hard drive and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. I kept having random boot errors and I knew the hard drive was not going bad, so I was suspecting some type of virus had gotten into the Master boot record and was causing havoc. I did a thorough scan with AVG and Nortons and they both said the drive was virus free.   • Simple Fix – DDE Server Window: Entry Point IsThreadDesktopComposited Error Message

    Problem:

     
    DDE Server Window: Entry Point Not Found
     
    The procedure entry point IsThreadDesktopComposited could not be located in the dynamic link library USER32.dll
     
    Fix:
     
    Go to your windows directory typically c:\windows\
     
    then open up system32 folder and rename dwmapi.dll to dwmapi.old
     
    This will stop the error message from coming up on your computer.
  • [Fix] The memory Could not be written – Windows error message

     Problem:

     
    The instructions at "0×000000" referenced memory at "0×00000000". The memory could not be "written"
     
    I would get this error message when I was trying to open a program such as Adobe, Winamp, Office, Firefox, etc. Here is how I fixed the error message…
     
    Fix: 
     
    First lets verify that this fix will get rid of this error message for you.
     
    First go to – Control Panel, Open up System, Click on the Advanced tab – then Performance Setting, then Data Execution Prevention Tab. if this screen is not grayed out and instead has a box checked – to turn on DEP- then chances are this is the root of your problems and this fix will work for you.
     
    So turn off DEP and fix your problem, follow the next 8 steps…..
