This is a round up of free programs I highly recommend using, on top of your typical protection and clean up programs such as Ccleaner, Nortons, Mcafee, AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.
MalwareBytes Anti-Spyware & Anti-Malware – This little program is really powerful, it has found malware on my system that Ad-aware had missed and it was able to remove some of the harder to get rid of malware programs such as Coolwebsearch without the need of an additional removal program. The only con to MalwareBytes, is that it does not do schedule scans, you need to manually go into the program to update and run the scan. On the plus side though, the scan runs fast and is quite thorough.
Dr Web CureIT – About a month ago I was having problems with a backup hard drive and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. I kept having random boot errors and I knew the hard drive was not going bad, so I was suspecting some type of virus had gotten into the Master boot record and was causing havoc. I did a thorough scan with AVG and Nortons and they both said the drive was virus free.
