This is a round up of free programs I highly recommend using, on top of your typical protection and clean up programs such as Ccleaner, Nortons, Mcafee, AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.
MalwareBytes Anti-Spyware & Anti-Malware – This little program is really powerful, it has found malware on my system that Ad-aware had missed and it was able to remove some of the harder to get rid of malware programs such as Coolwebsearch without the need of an additional removal program. The only con to MalwareBytes, is that it does not do schedule scans, you need to manually go into the program to update and run the scan. On the plus side though, the scan runs fast and is quite thorough.
Dr Web CureIT – About a month ago I was having problems with a backup hard drive and I couldn’t figure out what was wrong with it. I kept having random boot errors and I knew the hard drive was not going bad, so I was suspecting some type of virus had gotten into the Master boot record and was causing havoc. I did a thorough scan with AVG and Nortons and they both said the drive was virus free. So on a whim I decided to look around and see what new programs were out and I found this little gem of a program called Dr Web CureIT. I ran this program on my backup hard drive and come to find out I had a Root kit virus on the drive that was infecting the master boot record. Dr Web was able to remove the virus and in the process fixed my random problems I was having with the drive.

Dr Web CureIT is a stand alone program, meaning you don’t have to install the program, just download the .exe file and run the scanner, there is no install or setup. If you want to update it you will be asked to re-download the program again, but don’t worry, it’s a fairly petite powerful program ( say that three times fast ). One of the nice things about this is you can put it on a Flash Stick and carry it around with you, which is great if you do computer repair.
Glary Registry Repair – I have been using programs from Glarysoft for awhile now and have been quite impressed with their programs and how much work they put into their software. A couple months ago I found the Glary Registry Repair program and just loved how well it functioned and how safe it was to use to clean up my registry. It does a quick scan and fixes errors and problems with your registry, without causing additional problems to your computer.
I have found with registry programs that it is usually hit or miss, sometimes you find a good registry scanner and it fixes some issues then all of sudden some random programs stop working for you. Sometimes I find a registry scanner that appears to work good, then a few days later I get constant pop ups to register the program or it tells me it has found some issue and I need to purchase the program before I can use the repair. But thankfully with glary registry I have not had any problems with it and it is free to use.

On a side note, while you are at the Glarysoft website I recommend picking up Glary Utilities if you don’t have it already. Glary utilities is one of my favorite programs, it functions as an all around, over the top, computer servicing program. It’s great to run when you are too lazy to run 4 or 5 programs to do an in depth system scan. It runs in about 2 – 3 minutes, it can go faster depending on how much you use it, and it does a rather good job at keeping your system running smoothly with no errors.
