Ad Manager by OIOPublisher is extremely powerful, feature rich, and the tech support team is the one best I have ever seen. The support team helps with everything from installation issues, Ad setup, general questions, and custom coding that may be needed for your website.
When I was setting up a custom downloadable item, I had an email conversation with a gentleman named Simon that was 17 emails long. He would respond within minutes to an hour and offered several constructive ideas and suggestions to fix the issue.
The issue ended up being on my side, which was the result of Bad Behavior wordpress plugin blocking Paypal from my website. You have to Collect Fees, upload banners or write in ad text, program in ad display, make adjustments and updates to ads, remember to bill an advertiser every billing cycle, and remove their ad if no payment is made.
On top of this time consuming list, the advertisers will want statistic reports. They need to see how well the ad is performing such as click through rate, page & ad views, and other necessary information.

It’s no wonder so many go the Adsense, Textlinks, YPN, and other automated advertising route, even though they are limiting themselves in the revenue department. But with Ad manager every aspect of custom advertising for your website is handled seamlessly with ease, which leaves you with time on your hands for more important things. It will create accounts, process and display banners or text link, collect fees and offers reoccurring billing capability.
Ad Manager offers a make a payment area for advertisers to pay on your website if they wish or through an email link to paypal that is automatically sent out. It has statistics and reports that are emailed out weekly or monthly for advertisers to look over and has a link to your website where they can view the ad statistics.
All the chores of maintaining your ads and making money are automated with this Ad manager. Once you finish the setup and install of the program, which is a breeze to do, and have created the ad sports you want, then you have to decide what to charge for each ad and text link (This was the hardest part in my opinion). After that is done, everything is automated from there.

Other Features Included With This Software
Demographic module – Advertisers can set what demographic they want the ad to show up, based on location. So an advertiser set an ad to show up for people in United States, or in a specific area such as California, it will be displayed for visitors from that area and no where else.
Selling of Downloadable Items – If you want to sell ebooks, cds, music, etc, this program offers that capability. It secures the download folder so no one authorized can download the file. It will send out the automated emails with a download link, handles count down of quantities, and processes the payments.
The only downside is that files have to be Zipped up in an .zip extension, which isn’t a problem because every computer offers a way to zip or open .zip files. Another downside is that cents are not support, so you can’t sell something for .50, or 19.95, it only works with whole numbers such as 1,2,3,4,…20 and so on . Simon tells me this ability to sell items for with cents, will be added soon.
The other downside is that the Custom items admin area does not have the ability to add a picture for the downloadable item to be listed in the purchase area. I am sure they will add it in soon enough. Until then, just use it as a purchasing / Cart link for the selling of ebooks, music, etc. It is a working downloadable goods auto-responder with secure protection of your files.
Paid Article and Review Submissions – If you want to offer a submission service where articles can be submitted and added to your website, for free or for a fee, this software has that capability. It adds a box where articles can be typed or pasted in and it will automatically do payment processing of the fee, if one is set.
Ad review and control – You can set the program to automatically add new banners and authorize the download of paid items. Or you can set the software to not post ads or allow downloads until you have reviewed and approved the ad or purchase. You can also set the ability to review advertisements before a payment is made. Once you give your consent on an ad, then you can tell the program to go ahead and bill the advertiser and once they pay, the ad will go live.
Article Advertising Control – You can set the program to use inline article banner and text links. With this feature it will automatically insert an ad or text link into each of your articles on the fly. If you want to put a custom banner or text ad zone in your article, just paste in the Javascript code in the HTML / Source code area screen when you are writing your article. The javascript and php code is provided to you in the Ad creation area of your website, just copy and paste it wherever you need it. For advanced revenue on blogs, you can create a new banner or text links for popular articles, and then sell the ad spots through the program for that specific post. (I am already offering this on Godaddy to Google apps Article.)
Advertisement Queues – If someone already signed up for a spot on your website, that doesn’t mean the program will stop processing future advertisers for that area. Depending on how long you set your queue, the website will continue taking orders, and will automatically notify them when their ad has moved from the queue and is now displayed on the website.
Banner and Text Link Rotation – You can set banners and Text links to rotate different ads. This means you can sell more advertising spots and give your website a dynamic appearance, since the ads are rotating and changing per reload.
Ad and banner control for external pages – You are given a javascript code that you can use on any website that you have the ability to use javascript. If you have another website that you want to put ads on and don’t want to install the program on it, just paste the javascript code in the area you want the ad.
Set AdSense, YPN, Textlinks, etc., as default ads when no advertisements are present - Until you have advertisers and other sponsors there is no reason to not use these other advertising resources.
Quick How To Setup Default Ads
- After creating a banner, scroll down to the bottom of the banner creation area, where it says, Default Ad Config.
- Change the number to how many ads you want to run as default when no other advertisements are setup, then click Update Settings.
- When the page refreshes, scroll back down to Default Ad Config and you will see an area where you can adjust Default ad and tell it to “Fill In the gaps” when ads are not present or “Included in Rotation” when ads are present.
- Change the Default ad drop down from Image to Html and paste in your ad code and update settings.

Now you have your default ads setup for when you don’t have any advertiser’s for that area. But as soon as someone signs up, this ad will swap out for the new ad, unless you made it part of the ad rotation.
Open license for your websites – As long as you own the domain you can use the program without the need of multiple licenses. This is great for people who have multiple blogs and websites or use Sub Domains (like I do). As long as you own the primary domain, you are free to use the program.
Additional information
Seeing as this is a plugin for wordpress, some users may ask about possible website slow downs or lag issues on a blog site.
First off, the plugin portion of the package is light weight when it comes to programming. But there is a rare bug that makes 1000+ database records in the OIOconfig table. This can easily be fixed, so if you website is slowing down. You can test if you have this problem by opening up your phpmyadmin and see if this problem is happening to you. It is rare but does happen.
The ad plugin creates cron jobs to automatically clear out, index, and organize any old information that may be stored. These cron jobs ensure that the website and the program are hindered by the use of this program.
Secondly, the traffic statistic report for advertisers can bog down a server and put load stress on under powered or cheap hosting providers. Seeing as this is a module you can quickly disable it and delete it and the problem is solved. When you start making decent money from your ads and upgrade to a better host then you upload and turn the module back on again.
You can also remove payment modules you are not using along with the demographic module if you are not using them. To remove a module from oiopublisher, just go to /wp-content/plugins/oiopub-direct/modules/ and then delete what modules you do not use or want in there.
The plugin includes its own built in caching that works with the wp-super cache, hyper cache and WP-Widget Cache to help streamline and keep the website responsive and fast. (See the article about WP-Widget Cache)
If you will be posting more than one widget for ads, then additional widgets need to be text widgets that use the Javascript code provided for you in the ad creation area. Again, remember to cache these mods using wp-widget cache.
When creating or updating ads or when a new advertiser signs up, it may be required to Clear caches created by wp-super cache or Hyper cache, because the ad is updated on the website.
These are code changes I requested for my website(s) – The two code changes are simple.
1. Approval Of Ads before they are added to the website and before custom Items can be downloaded.
I did not see a need to approve ads or approve items before they are downloaded. I emailed Simon and asked for a way to turn this feature off. I just want the ads to show up as soon as they are approved.
I also have a legal notice on the advertisement page that should stop people from posting porn, scams, or illicit material on my website. And if they someone does pay for an ad of this nature then I consider the payment of the ad to be payment for my time to remove it. (Even if the ad will only be active for an hour at most.)
I also don’t want to hinder the purchasing of downloadable items by people waiting for me to approve the download.

The Code to automate the approval of ads and downloads requires a way to edit code or you can download the modified file by following the link below.
- Open up purchase.php, which is located in /wp-content/plugins/oio-pubdirect/include/
- Near the top of the code you will see

Change this to
var $auto_approve = 1;
Save the file and now you will no longer need to approve every ad and item sold.
2. Inline ad displayed on main page of website along with being displayed in a single article / post.
I Love the automatic function of inline article ads, but I hate that it list these ads on the main page with the article itself. So I requested a code to prevent inline ads from showing up on the main page in the brief article overview before the read more tag.
Here is the code, again you will need an editor of some sort or you can download the modified file.
- Edit inline.php – Located in -content/plugins/oio-pubdirect/platform/wordpress/
- Search for this code in the "output" function area:
