This article is intended to help people get immediate traffic to their website(s) from search engines.
It’s a common dream among website owners to be number one in organic search ranking for certain keywords, but the mistake that they make, is not realizing that this is only a dream. They believe they can have amazing keyword ranking right from the start with common keywords, not even realizing that this type of ranking feat can take several hundred hours of time, energy, work, and dedication. In the end, the website owner gets burned out, loses a lot valuable time and over looks very simple ways to get traffic and customers.
Instead it would have been wiser to start off with geographically localized keywords. As a result they would be trying to get ranking results over a handful of websites instead of competing against hundreds, possibly thousands of websites for a common keyword.
A good example and one of the first websites I worked on was geared for the keyword “Laser Liposuction”. Of course, this is a very common keyword and a lot of websites are competing to get number one for this keyword; namely a lot of larger websites that have been around way before this website was created with lots of content and back links. But none the less, these people unfazed by this reality wanted to be number 1 on the first page for this keyword in Google. It seemed to me looking back when I took over this website, that the previous webmaster had either high hopes of accomplishing this feat, or didn’t know better and listened to the customer and told them that he could do it. Needless to say, this ranking of course, never happened and wasted a lot of precious time and money.
When I took over the website, the very first thing I did was add to this keyword by typing in the area where they are located, making the keyword Laser Liposuction Las Vegas, NV. I then started building a search engine marketing campaign geared towards customers in Las Vegas and surrounding areas. As a result in 3 to 5 days they started to get calls off the internet, getting new customers and clients. All that had changed was, making some simple touches to the website thus bringing the website keyword ranking war down to an even playing field with just a 20 or so websites trying to get keyword ranking.
In about 30 days, the website had made some major leaps in organic result ranking, and I was able to get this website number 1 for the keywords. Within this 30 days time, the website had built enough back links to start a sufficient campaign for number one listing for other keywords that I felt the website should go after to increase business.
Notice that all this was accomplished by just localizing the keywords to the geographic areas for business, instead of trying to be number one for a popular keyword. Granted, this type of keyword thinking seems to be very simple and straight forward, but it is very easy to overlook, and it appears that people get caught up in the moment of website keyword creation and forget this basic rule.
Now the subject of this article is to always think of geographic areas you can get into right away with your website that you can dominate keyword ranking results. Then once you have achieved the rankings you want, move on to other market areas and different keywords. Continue building until your website becomes large enough to go after the common keywords.
On a side note, if you run an e-commerce website, think of states that are more prone to buying your products. If you run a website that sells rustic furniture setup your keywords for areas such as Colorado, Texas, Wyoming, Utah, etc. You will be surprised how much of a difference this can make in sells.
"Try to choose skirmishes you can win right now, so you can build momentum to win the war (or keyword ranking war in this case)."

Glad you enjoyed the article Anthony, it’s not easy to think of things to type for a blog…
You have many good points, trying to compete with keywords that millions of other websites have is pointless, go for something local, and more effective.
