This did not fix the problem. I have Office 2003 and I still get the message even after downloading and opening the file.

I’m running XP SP3 and Office 2003. I have a PowerPoint file from 1999 that gives me the “you are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry policy setting” error. By the way, the “register policy setting” has never been changed. This is a home computer, I am the administrator and I NEVER made any policy if the sort to block anyone from opening certain files blah blah blah.

It I tried your “Office 2003 fix”, but it didn’t help. I still get the error.
