Friend GPS Locator For Social-Networking, Um No!

Social Netowrking Globe

This is just a bad idea, adding the ability for people to track each others where abouts. I think they should just drop it immediately and go back to the drawing boards. If social-networking places are looking for something innovative to get people to come to their website, then they need to think harder, because this is just bad publicity waiting to happen.

I really don’t see the point of being able to see where my friends are at any given time of day. There is nothing social about adding this stalker-ish feature to a website geared towards social-networking. In most cases I can almost guarantee this feature will be used by parents tracking their kids, employers tracking their employees, or it will be used for some crazy guy or girl stalking some other guy or girl.

Now if they really want to push the use of this feature, they should just straight up market it for parents who want to monitor their kids. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for giving kids their privacy, but lets face it, there is a lot of dumb kids and teens out there that would use this tracking ability, on their profile, and let deranged individuals see their every move.

In conclusion, I think it’s an awful idea to even offer this service. I can see advertising business pushing this technology, so they can monitor consumers and see where they shop, what stores they go to, and where people hang out. It adds no real value for social-networking. It’s only good for monitoring people, and I can see a big push from parents trying to get this service added to other social-networking sites. Parents would also push to be the only  ones to have access to it.
