Hello Nicole, google doesn't have a 48 hour delay on their side, it typically on the webhost side that causes the delay. Godaddy for instance usually takes about 20 minutes to update all the changes, but they still say it can take on the upwards of 24 hours to switch, even though I have never had it take that long.

During this time, emails are put into your current mail box system. For instance, if you are with godaddy, all your emails will go to your godaddy email box until the change occurs. That is not to say that some emails could be bounced back for a few minutes to the sender while the cname and dns are being changed over and activated by Google apps, but still highly unlikely that this will happen.

I have been using Google apps for some time now and I have not noticed any ad sponsors on email I have sent out. The only ads I see are the ones when I use the webmail login and I will see adsense ads on the right hand side of the screen. So all the ads are on the user side.

If you want do the switch over to Google apps, I would recommend doing it in the evening, after business hours. Depending on the host you are using you can expect an instant switch over to google apps email system, or on the upwards of to 5 to 10 hours if you are using an out dated webhost that doesn't update cname and dns automatically.

I hope this helps you out.

On the Google site it says there may be a 48 hour delay before this change takes effect. Does that mean you can't receive, send or check email for 48 hours? Do emails get bounced back during this time? Can you tell me what the ad sponsors look like on the standard mail and where they are located? On the user side or client side?

Hi there.
I´m having a problem with GApps.
I had created a POP and SMTP CNAMES (pop.mydomain.com and smtp.mydomain.com) for my domain pointing to pop.googlemail.com (tried pop.gmail.com too) and smtp.googlemail.com (smtp.gmail.com).

When I configure the accounts on the email client (Outlook mostly) a got an warning message that alerts about an invalid certification, asking the user if he still wants to continue on that server.

Any way to hide this message?

Tnks and congratulations for the post.

Your article has really helped me out with getting Google Apps email set up with GoDaddy. I've followed the steps that you've outlined. One question: GoDaddy has CNAMES for "mail", "pop", "smtp", "pda" and "mobilemail" which point to godaddy by default. Do I also need to change these to ghs.google.com? Or maybe it doesn't matter?

One note is that Google Apps can take up to 48 hours to verify your domain, so don't get ahead of yourself like I did and change your mx records before you're verified.

I too am interested to see if there is an easy way to take the mail off my server and put on the new google server. I have it all dled via Outlook anyway.
