Must Read article on How To Use Social News Sites
Found this great article through stumbleupon. It goes into detail about the pro’s and con’s of the many article submitting websites. The article has some good insights about what to expect, and the type of traffic you get from each website. I 100% agree with him about reddit and stumbleupon, the readers that come through these websites are usually solid. They stick around and check out the website and turn out to be loyal visitors. I also want to add another website that has been good to me, and that is Fark.
Digg readers on the other hand, come to a website to read the article, then promptly leave. If you are going to be submitting to Digg, you need to be know that they are not bashful about giving their opinions about a post, website, author, etc. So as the article says, if you are going to be posting there, you need to have thick skin. But if you do hang in there and if by some divine intervention, extreme luck, voodoo magic, etc, you end up on the front pages, you can expect massive traffic. The Digg effect is nothing to sneeze at, it’s a host killer for good reason because of the traffic you receive.

Newsvine is great, but you are not allowed to submit your own articles. You get one warning then you are banned, so don’t do it.
Propeller is so/so, I have yet to see any good traffic from Propeller, the only reason most of my articles get submitted there is through Socialmarker. If it wasn’t for socialmarker I would not use go to the website. Just my opinion though.
Mixx has brought some good traffic to my website, easy to use, and the traffic that comes from there stays and reads other articles.
